ILM Level 7 Certificate in Leadership and Management

ILM Level 7 Certificate in Leadership and Management

Developing leadership and management capability through enquiry (8617-700 20 Credits)

This ILM level 7 Certificate is aimed at our most senior leaders who are at Head of Department or Director Level or aspiring to be a Head of Department/Director in the near future. You will have completed a recognized management and leadership qualification (preferably the ILM Level 5) and will have at least 5 years of relevant experience in a management or leadership role.

A core part of the programme is that you will undertake a comprehensive investigation or enquiry in the context of your organisation, ministry, department or team which supports the Civil Service vision of becoming a world class civil service.   Your investigation will be an opportunity for you to assess a development or change initiative which will really make a difference within government.   As part of the programme you will present your ideas and findings to your senior leadership team.

By taking part and completing this programme, you will:

  • Become confident in using an enquiry led evidence based approach to recommend and influence change at a senior level.
  • Enhance and develop your leadership and management capability
  • Develop and enhance your personal brand
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a high-level, strategic business improvement
  • Embed your leadership and management development in real work.

The programme is the equivalent to a Masters level of study and will take between 6 and 9 months to complete.  The projects will be real initiatives instigated by the learner as relevant to their team/departments progress towards the organisations mission and vision.

Participation in Learning Communities

You will take part into Action Learning Sets to create a forum for continuous learning, feedback and challenge with your peers.  These learning communities will be held monthly or more frequently if needed and facilitated by fellow learners.

Tutor led activity hours

Tutor input will take the form of 5 workshops followed by facilitation and input into the learning community groups. Tutorials and tutor support will be available alongside peer support for the duration of the programme.  Impromptu tutorial support will be provided as needed by the facilitators and this may include telephone, email and face to face support as appropriate.

Assessment Strategy

All assessments are work related and designed to provide individual development and organisational benefits.  The assessment will be conducted by review of the learner’s full enquiry which needs to show strategic thinking and a data driven approach to making recommendations for organizational change.   Learners will provide evidence of this through Power-point presentations, written reports, notes, short videos, data analysis and the application of research tools.
